Wylie, Texas – Date – September 27, 2023.   In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2023, The Wylie Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), along with its educator and community partners, is proud to announce a month-long program of activities that bring together our educational institutions as they work together to prepare Wylie students for the workforce of the future.

At last night's City Council meeting, Wylie Mayor, Matthew Porter, issued a Proclamation proclaiming October 6th, 2023, as Manufacturing Day in Wylie, Texas. He also recognized the statewide Proclamation issued by Governor Abbott declaring October 6th as Manufacturing Day for the State of Texas.  Educators, community partners, city staff, and local industry were on hand for the reading of the Proclamation.

This Proclamation launches a series of student and community tours, activities and events focused on raising awareness for the importance of manufacturing in Wylie, Texas. Industry tours for students involved in complementary CTE Programs in Wylie ISD will begin on October 5th on Hensley and Martinez Lane with Avanti Windows & Doors, Barco Pump, CNC Innovations, SAF Holland USA, Sanden International USA, Savage Precision Fabrication and Tower Extrusion.

Returning in an expanded form this year are Community Tours hosted by Barco Pump on Hensley Lane, Savage Precision Fabrication on Martinez Lane, and Sanden International on Sanden Blvd. Manufacturers will open their facilities to the public and provide tours and workforce program information. Food trucks will be on hand to serve citizen tour participants during the event. You must be registered to attend. Additional Industry tours will be conducted throughout the month focusing on compounding pharmacies, dental device manufacturers, culinary arts businesses, construction, and architecture disciplines.

Every year, Wylie celebrates Manufacturing Day activities throughout the month of October.  In 2023, more than 100 students representing 9 technical education disciplines will participate in industry tours featuring local manufacturers.

According to the Manufacturing Institute, manufacturers in the United States will face an unprecedented demand for workforce with an estimated 4 million jobs needing to be filled by 2030. Technical and automation related skills are quickly becoming critical skills for today’s manufacturing processes.

“In response to the growing demand for highly skilled professionals who can program, design, and operate advanced technology, we have worked to bring together key educators and businesses to address the issue,” stated Jason Greiner, Executive Director of Wylie EDC.  “In addition, Texas Workforce Solutions and Collin College are actively working with employers to involve them in the education process through internships, apprenticeships and other workforce training programs to ensure the best workforce opportunities for Wylie students” he added.
