With it's roots firmly entrenched as a local rail destination, Wylie has grown over the years to continue to adapt to changing times and technologies. Significant growth for the city began in the 1970's with the current population estimated at 40,000 residents.

In 2005, Wylie was distinguished by the Dallas Business Journal as one of the Top 50 "Best Places to Work" in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Wylie has also been recognized for maintaining the lowest crime rate in Collin County for cities with a population greater than 10,000.

In 2007, Matt Woolsey of Forbes.com, wrote in his article, "America’s Fastest-Growing Suburbs", that based upon a percentage of growth from 2000 to 2006, Wylie was rated 8th in the nation with 109.3% growth

A Technology Leader

Wylie was one of the first cities in the nation to have Verizon's fiber optics to the home (FIOS). This technology of the future is currently being used to deliver Internet speeds of up to 15mbps, on-demand television service, and local telephone service to nearly every residential address in Wylie. This fiber network will soon be available to businesses throughout the area to power their technology needs.

A Place for Families

Wylie still maintains the feeling of a small town community with lots of annual family-style events. From concerts in the park to the Wylie Professional Rodeo to the Kids Pedal Car Race, there's something for everyone in family.
